Meraki

What assurance, confidence, or warranty accompanies Meraki equipment from OTC?

Our very first step is to verify through the Meraki dashboard the hardware is unclaimed (i.e. removed from previous owner’s Meraki dashboard account) before any additional measures are taken. (The unit is not available for resell if still assigned to or claimed by a previous Meraki dashboard account.) OTC’s QA process continues with power up (e.g., dual power, PoE where applicable) and confirmation of port data transfers. The final step is ensuring a clean cosmetic appearance (e.g., clearing scratches, wiping blemishes, replacing stripped or damaged accessories, mounting bracket fit, etc.). Additionally, OTC includes a 60-day hardware replacement warranty on OTC hardware shipments.

Is Meraki friendly to hardware purchased second-hand?

Yes, Meraki encourages purchases from their channel partners; however, second-hand purchases are allowed and ownership of devices can be transferred between third-parties at any time, with certain provides and restrictions: * Devices are first removed from the previous owner’s dashboard account.

* [Cisco Meraki] Warranties are non-transferable

* [Cisco Meraki] Cloud Controller licenses are non-transferable

How does maintenance work on third-party Cisco Meraki?

Meraki is software-defined (i.e. cloud-managed), meaning without software subscription the associated hardware is useless. Meraki includes TAC (Technical Assistance Center) support with their license subscriptions, so there is no need for independent or 3rd party maintenance services.

Would potential remaining Meraki licenses or warranties be transferrable, or still valid, on hardware purchased from OTC?

No, per Meraki: “Any warranty still valid on a Cisco Meraki device will not be transferred to a new owner if it is sold between third parties. As such, should the device fail, it will not qualify for an RMA [from Cisco Meraki*].” *emphasis added by OTC

Can you help me get product that is on backorder or is End-of-Life (EOL)?

Many times, the answer is yes, because OTC supply chains are independent of The Channel’s supply lines.

What do the Meraki product prefix letters mean?

MR = Meraki Radios (Wireless), often associated with WLAN devices or WAPs (Wireless Access Points)

MS = Meraki Switching, often associated with Layer 3 switching

MX = Meraki Security (X is usec because it “crosses” so many technologies), often associated with Firewalls and Routers

MV = Meraki Vision (Cameras)

MC = Meraki Communication (Phones)

MI = Meraki Insight (Application Performance)

SM = Systems Manager (Device Management)

What is the difference between Meraki 802.11ac & 802.11ax models?

802.11ac are WiFi 5 models, whereas 802.11ax are WiFi 6 models.

Is there an order minimum (e.g. $5,000)?

No, OTC does not have an order minimum.

Maintenance

Do I need to tell [Cisco, Dell, HPE] I'm using OTC services?
No, you simply will not purchase renewal services from [Cisco, Dell, HPE] from your VAR; instead, your purchase of an OTC maintenance plan will usurp [Cisco, Dell, HPE] maintenace.
Will [Cisco, Dell, HPE] approve of using OTC services?
If a device is EOL or EOSL, then [Cisco, Dell, HPE] leave you with no other options and often have no opinion. If a device is approaching a renewal contract with [Cisco, Dell, HPE], then it’s expected they’ll encourage use of their services vs. OTC.
Does OTC provide software support?
Software support tends to mean access to firmware or code updates. OTC does not develop, provide, or access any code or firmware; the Intellectual Property (IP) is simply not ours to give. It’s common for OTC to receive tickets created under the expectation that software is the issue. OTC is committed to diagnosing and resolving issues.
Where are your techs dispatched from?

This depends on where your devices are located. We implement the same type of service model [Cisco, Dell, HPE] deploys using a centralized knowledge center and field techs. Depending on the SLA you’ve purchased, a field engineer may be dispatched to complete your ticket. For a 4-hour SLA, we often dispatch field engineers from within a 2-hour travel radius of your location to account for travel and still honor the SLA.

How do I open a ticket?
OTC provides contact details via phone, email, and online portal to our Service Team. You will no longer contact the OEM for future tickets.
Are parts included?
Yes, replacement hardware is included as part of all OTC maintenance services; however, devices not yet under an OTC service plan with failed hardware will need failed hardware replaced and system restored to full operations health prior to adding device to an OTC maintenance plan.

Trade-Ins & For Sale Equipment

What kind of valuation can I expect?
FMV (Fair Market Value) is the main factor for assessing value. Additional considerations are geographic location affecting freight costs and the level of OTC involvement for auditing and packaging.
What is the difference between a trade-in vs. purchase?
Depending on the quantity involved, OTC may offer greater value for the hardware as a credit vs. cash-purchase as an “advanced discount” towards future purchases. Credits also help the realized value remain close to the department or group it originated from, vs. getting buried in a company’s overall balance sheet.
What does OTC do with the equipment?
Equipment will be inspected for operation and resale, either as complete or individual components. Hardware that is no longer useful will be responsibly scrapped and recycled.
Does OTC provide data erasure or certificate of destruction?
Yes! These certificates are included at no cost, unless greater detail is required (i.e. individual serialization of components, extensive documentation or indexing of hardware, etc.).

Hardware

What is the difference between hardware AVLs (Approved Vendor Lists) and 3rd party compatible hardware?

OTC only offers hardware found on AVLs for compatibility reasons. This is an important distinction vs. 3rd party hardware suppliers who merely emulate OEM hardware specifications but aren’t approved for use by the OEMs. AVL OEMs are more reliable because they’re compatible with all other OEM standards. 3rd party hardware cannot deliver the same assurances as AVL hardware.
